Filter Diesel Fuel

Filter Diesel Fuel

Our on-site fuel testing identifies the type and level of contamination present in your diesel, allowing us to select the most effective filtration system for your specific requirements.

Using advanced multi-stage filtration equipment, we remove water, sludge, sediment, rust, and microbial contamination (diesel bug) to restore fuel quality and improve reliability.

Our diesel cleaning systems are engineered to meet or exceed OEM cleanliness standards, often achieving target fuel specifications in a single pass. This process helps extend engine life, reduce downtime, and allows contaminated fuel to be recovered and reused rather than discarded.

Diesel Fuel Filtration - Differences

Kidney Loop Filtration

Kidney loop filtration is a recirculating cleaning process where fuel is continuously drawn from a tank, filtered, and returned back into the same tank repeatedly.

The name comes from the way kidneys continuously clean blood in the human body.

How It Works

  1. Fuel is taken from the storage tank.
  2. It passes through water separators and fine particulate filters.
  3. Clean fuel is returned to the tank.
  4. The cycle repeats continuously until the fuel reaches the required cleanliness level.

Key Benefits

  • Removes water, sludge, diesel bug, sediment, and fine particles
  • Gradually cleans the entire fuel volume
  • Ideal for:
    • Bulk fuel tanks
    • Generator tanks
    • Long-term fuel storage
    • Preventive maintenance
  • Can polish fuel while equipment remains operational
  • Less stress on filters because contamination is removed progressively

Best Used For

  • Dirty or aged stored diesel
  • Fuel polishing programs
  • Water contamination issues
  • Maintaining fuel quality over long periods

Example

A 50,000L diesel tank may circulate through a kidney loop system multiple times over several hours or days until the fuel reaches ISO cleanliness targets.

Direct Pass Filtration

Direct pass filtration filters the fuel once as it moves from one location to another.

The fuel passes through the filtration unit a single time before being transferred into equipment, vehicles, or another tank.

How It Works

  1. Fuel is pumped from Tank A.
  2. It passes through filters/water separators once.
  3. Cleaned fuel is delivered directly into Tank B or equipment.

Key Benefits

  • Fast transfer and filtration combined
  • Good for:
    • Fuel deliveries
    • Refuelling operations
    • Transfer between tanks
  • Simpler setup
  • Effective for removing larger contaminants during transfer

Limitations

  • Fuel only gets one cleaning pass
  • Heavy contamination may not be fully removed
  • Less effective for sludge or microbial contamination
  • Cannot progressively improve overall tank cleanliness

Best Used For

  • Clean-to-clean transfers
  • Pre-delivery filtration
  • Day-to-day fuel handling operations
So in short...

The Main Difference

Feature Kidney Loop Filtration Direct Pass Filtration
Fuel Movement Recirculates back into same tank One-way transfer
Number of Filtration Passes Multiple Single
Cleaning Effectiveness Very high Moderate
Removes Heavy Contamination Yes Limited
Tank Cleaning Capability Excellent Minimal
Typical Use Fuel polishing & restoration Fuel transfer
Time Required Longer Faster
